Every so often, I have the honor of working with couples who break the mold and plan a day that truly feels like them. Jaimie and Spencer’s Amway Grand Plaza wedding was exactly that. With their closest family and friends by their side, they said “I do” and celebrated with an intimate dinner at MDRD, overlooking downtown Grand Rapids.
There wasn’t anything over-the-top or wildly extravagant about Jaimie and Spencer’s wedding day—and that’s exactly what made it so special. It was intimate, thoughtful, and completely them. It was the perfect fall day filled with warmth, laughter, and a celebration as effortless as it was meaningful.

The Details, Getting Ready, & First Looks From This Amway Grand Plaza Wedding in Grand Rapids
Jaimie and Spencer spent the morning of their Amway Grand Plaza wedding getting ready separately with their closest people. It was laid-back, easy, and full of the kind of moments that remind you what the day is really about.
Jaimie’s bridesmaids lit up when they saw her in her sleek, timeless gown. She also shared a sweet first look with her dad before heading out for the ceremony. And I have to talk about her bouquet for a second—those soft fall tones by Rhiannon Bosse were everything. Proof that timeless doesn’t have to mean all white.

A Grand Rapids Wedding Ceremony at Our Lady Seat of Wisdom Chapel
Jaimie and Spencer exchanged vows at Our Lady Seat of Wisdom Chapel on the campus of Aquinas College—a warm, peaceful setting for such a meaningful moment. The chapel’s soft light, warm wood tones, and stunning floral arrangements created an atmosphere that felt both timeless and personal.
Jaimie made her way down the aisle on her father’s arm, and you could feel the emotion as Spencer saw her for the first time. From the music to the quiet glances they shared, every detail of their ceremony reflected the heart of who they are: classic, genuine, and full of so much love.

Outdoor Fall Grand Rapids Wedding Portraits
After the ceremony, Jaimie and Spencer snuck away with their wedding party for portraits around the beautiful Holmdene Hall at Aquinas College. The historic brick, lush greenery, and soft fall light made every shot feel timeless yet personal. The bridesmaids’ rust-colored velvet gowns added the perfect touch of texture and richness—proof that color can be both bold and elegant.
Later, we made our way back downtown for more portraits inside the iconic Amway Grand Plaza. Between the gilded details, glowing chandeliers, and intimate moments, it was the perfect backdrop.

Intimate Cocktail Hour & MDRD Amway Grand Plaza Wedding Reception
Jaimie and Spencer’s Amway Grand Plaza wedding wrapped with the dreamiest reception at MDRD—a cozy, modern restaurant with breathtaking city views that felt like the most elevated dinner party.
From the beginning, they wanted to blend tradition with something more personal. Instead of a ballroom, they invited 75 of their closest people to share an evening that was intimate, relaxed, and full of intention. There were no grand entrances or first dances. Just heartfelt speeches, amazing cocktails, and an atmosphere that felt effortlessly elegant.
The details were perfection: moody florals, golden-hued glassware, and the glow of the Grand Rapids skyline as the sun dipped below the horizon. A live musician added to the relaxed vibe, while guests could have their portraits sketched by a live illustrator which was such a personal and memorable touch. Jaimie also shared a sweet private first dance with her dad, one of the most tender moments of the night.
This entire day came together beautifully thanks to All Buttoned Up Events, one of my absolute favorite planners to work with. If you’re dreaming up an Amway Grand Plaza wedding that’s stylish, meaningful, and full of heart, this is exactly the kind of celebration I love to capture.

A Note From Jaimie & Spencer:
“Oh my goodness, where to even start! I cannot, and my husband will back me up on this, recommend Patty enough as a wedding photographer! From our engagement shoot to the big day, Patty was a dream to work with. For two people who aren’t very comfortable in front of the camera, Patty (and Rueben!) made us feel completely at ease and never once made us feel awkward. Her ability to capture the moment, along with her creativity and eye for detail, is truly extraordinary.
Her photos speak for themselves, absolutely remarkable, but they are only half as incredible as the person you get to work with and that is saying something! Our photos turned out beyond our wildest dreams. I don’t think I have stopped looking at them since we got them, but it isn’t just me. We’ve had multiple people, unprompted, tell us our photos are the best wedding photos they have ever seen… I would have to agree!
To sum it up: Patty will deliver you the most incredible photos you have ever seen, but also make you laugh and feel comfortable along the way. Like many Grooms, mine might not have been the most excited for photos, but as he said once he saw ours… “Listen to Patty, you will thank yourself later”
