Nicole and Jeff’s Grosse Pointe War Memorial wedding was the kind of day that stays with you. Their celebration flowed beautifully from start to finish, beginning with a calm morning getting ready at the Shinola Hotel, followed by a beautiful ceremony at Sweetest Heart of Mary Church in Detroit, and ending with a chic reception at The War Memorial in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan.
Every part of the day felt thoughtful, with the perfect balance of emotion, energy, and that timeless Detroit charm. Working alongside Bianca from Belle Event Co. made the experience even better. Her steady presence and attention to detail allowed the day to unfold naturally, which gave Nicole and Jeff the space to truly be present. From start to finish, it was a wedding that felt true to them and the places that framed it.

The Details & Getting Ready at Shinola Hotel in Detroit
The morning started at the Shinola Hotel in downtown Detroit. The morning felt easy and effortless which really set the tone for Nicole and Jeff’s Grosse Pointe War Memorial wedding. The space is clean, timeless, and easy to photograph, which makes it such a great getting ready location.
One of my favorite moments during this part of the day was Nicole’s first look with her dad and brothers. It was sweet, emotional, and full of genuine reactions. Those kind of reactions are always something I love documenting. Moments like that are exactly why the Shinola works so well. It gives couples room to slow down and be present before heading into the rest of the day. I’ve photographed several weddings here over the years, and it continues to be one of my favorite spaces in Detroit, whether for a full wedding or just getting ready at.

A Sweetest Heart of Mary Wedding Ceremony in Detroit
Sweetest Heart of Mary is one of my favorite places to photograph a Detroit wedding ceremony, and it was a beautiful setting for Nicole and Jeff to exchange vows. The architecture immediately stops you in your tracks, with soaring columns and detailed icons of the saints throughout the space. The church is more than 130 years old and carries a sense of history that gave their ceremony a grounded feel.
One of the most memorable moments was Nicole’s walk down the aisle, known as the longest wedding aisle in the city of Detroit. Surrounded by their family and friends, the scale of the space added to the emotion. It was a ceremony that felt meaningful and perfectly reflective of Nicole and Jeff’s day!

Romantic Grosse Pointe War Memorial Wedding Formals
When we arrived to The War Memorial in Grosse Pointe, Nicole and Jeff shared a first look inside their reception space. It was a stunning, and you could see just how taken aback they were by the space. Those few minutes gave them space to be present together before moving into portraits.
From there, we stepped outside for formal portraits around the property. War Memorial is beautiful venue the blends old architecture and modern elegance. One of the reasons a Grosse Pointe War Memorial wedding photographs so well is the variety of backdrops all in one place. From the lush gardens and stone pathways to the waterfront along Lake St. Clair. Each location flowed seamlessly!

Cocktail Hour & Grosse Pointe War Memorial Wedding Reception in The Ballroom
Nicole and Jeff’s Grosse Pointe War Memorial wedding flowed effortlessly into cocktail hour on the patio and balcony overlooking the water. Guests mingled outside as the evening settled in, taking in the views. I think one of my favorite memories of this day was the rain holding out all day for the lightest drizzle to begin just as they shared their first dance as husband and wife, with their guest watching from the covered patio.
From there, the celebration moved inside to The Ballroom. This space has floor to ceiling windows, offering views of Lake St. Clair. The light rain outside made the setting all the more romantic. The reception was full of beautiful details, heartfelt toasts, and an energetic dance floor. They even had cannoli’s from GiGi’s Espresso & Cannoli Bar for a sweet treat later in the night.
After speeches, we stepped away for some flash portraits inside some of the War Memorial’s interior rooms. It really gave such a beautiful contrast to the waterfront setting. It was a wedding day that felt intentional and full of so much happiness and great energy.

Why Grosse Pointe War Memorial Is Such a Special Place to Get Married
Grosse Pointe War Memorial is one of those rare venues that feels both grand and grounding. Set right along the water in Metro Detroit, it offers sweeping lake views and beautiful architecture that carries through the entire day. It’s a perfect fit for couples who want their wedding to feel elevated, intentional, and centered around time with the people they love most.
This venue is especially perfect for couples who value atmosphere and experience just as much as aesthetics. From quiet moments overlooking the water to an elegant reception that flows effortlessly, it creates space for connection and emotion. I would absolutely love to photograph another wedding here. The light, the setting, and the energy of the day align so naturally with the way I work.
